Our history: 1994-present

The following is a History of Hazel Creek Mill as written by Mrs. Edith Nash in 1995. Edith was the wife of Robert Nash. Robert and Edith are the last and current owners of the Mill and Shoals Property.

James Robert Nash purchased the “Mill Shoals” property in early 1994 from Mr. Short’s Estate. He has spent the last year and a half cleaning up and getting the surrounding property back in good condition. Progress is being made in getting the “Mill’ listed on the Historical Registry. Plans are to start the restoration of the “Mill” early next year.

The Race that once carried the water to the wheel is gone. The Mill House needs major repair. The Mill Stones and Equipment are still there. The big Metal Wheel still turns. Several of the Brass Plates are rusted and need to be replaces. Renovation is in the planning stages. Pine Timbers to replace the rotted floor joists have been cut and dried. They are now ready to be pressure-treated. Oak Timbers, the size needed are not available.

While the clean up of the undergrowth makes the “Mill” more visible from Highway 197, the “Mill” is not open to the public at the present time. When the renovation is complete, plans are to open the “Mill” to the public.

We welcome you to a Sneak-A-Peak of the “Mill”. Please look – Try to visualize how it used to be and what it will be someday soon. And most of all, plan to return when it is finished.

We plan to publish a history of the “Hazel Creek Mill” and would love to have your stories or pictures to be included. We live in the Cedar House on the hill joining the “Mill property. Please stop by and Chat.
